At the end of the BBQ season, I pressure wash the grill , burners etc and get everything as clean as possible. I light it up and get it good and hot and dry everything out. I sand and spray the burner cover plates with high heat paint, everything else gets sprayed with cooking oil. The grill plates go in a plastic bag. This takes a bit of time but I have found I can get six or seven seasons out of a grill rather than four or five..they will rust out eventually. I make my own burner covers from sheet metal I get at the welding shop, cut the correct length and width, I just have to mark and drill holes to correspond to the originals. I do try to make them last as long as possible.
