Dog attacks resulting in death in the US 2017. 74% of attacks pit bull or pit bull mix. Next highest breed at 10% is German Shepard.
Kinda interesting that Pti Bull only makes up about 6.9% of the US dog population but is responsible for 74% of dog attack deaths.
Now to put this in real perspective, out of over 330,000,000 Americans 29 were killed by pit bulls last year. During the 13-year period of 2005 to 2017, canines killed 433 Americans. Two dog breeds, pit bulls (284) and Rottweiler's (45), contributed to 76% (329) of these deaths. 35 different dog breeds contributed to the remaining fatal dog mauling's.
We kill over 30,000 people on the highways every year and no one thinks about it. Have a breed of dog that kills 29 and it's a problem???
