Productivity, and Prices. If you are a wage earner, think of productivity as how many hours you work per week. Productivity (like bu per acre, lbs of milk per cow, lbs of beef marketed) is somewhat governed by weather, but also in how much we adapt to the weather. Prices. For the hourly wage earner this is your wage per hour. All commodity prices have been lowered significantly in the past few years, so all farmers are working for a somewhat lower wage. That price pullback is due to greater supply, and less foreign demand, mostly due to good production around the world, a higher US dollar than we had in the past decade, and frankly, trade disputes due to politics.
