Marine Staff Sergeant John Basilone was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on Guadalcanal.
They took him out of combat and had him selling war bonds. He got bored and insisted on going back to combat. He was killed about two hours after landing on Iwo Jima.
To this day, he is still the only Medal of Honor recipient who ever returned to combat and was killed in action.
