I have been using K-Gard hand cleaner for years. It's a gel, you put it on your hands without wetting them and then rinse off. It is fantastic stuff. No grit, no grime, and I have a little bottle in the truck because you can use it with no water and just wipe off your hands on a rag.
No idea where to get it these days. The hardware store where I bought my current couple of gallons is out of business.
