Some AM stations increase their power during the day compared to what they broadcast at night. WHP 580 in Harrisburg, PA is one of these. You can listen to it fine during the daytime, but at night they decrease the signal and you get a lot of static. If you are listening to an AM station this might be contributing to the problem.
