For the same reasons, seems New York state should separate th so called "upstate" area from the NYC area. Northern Michigan from the Detroit and Lansing areas, etc. Problem is - what happens when the original staters completely ruin where they live and then move to the new and better areas? How many times can a state split? Seems the new states will need special immigration rules to keep from becoming what they escaped from. I don't care anymore what NY or CA does. If northern MI and the MI U.P. wanted to become a new state called "Northern Michigan" - I'd vote for it. I've even let some of the farmers on the southern end join. They can be south-northern Michiganders.
