There used to be a couple of places here in Memphis that rebuilt staters and generators on a large scale for the parts stores. Then they began sending cores to China, now you get brand new from China. I use a local mom and pop rebuilder where the owner calls me by name when I come in. I don't even compare his price to Auto Zone. I don't care if he is twice the price. There has been a couple of times over the years when his work "went bad". I took the part back to him, he tested it while I waited. Nothing wrong with his work. He then politely and kindly told me how to troubleshoot my problem. Now that I think of it, several years ago, we had a family attending our church while their son had to be at St. Jude several weeks taking cancer treatments. The alternator went out on their old mini van. I got their battery charged up, sent them over to Tim at Mid South Generator and Starter. He changed out their alternator and would not take a penny.
