My experience... I had bought a car brand new and the oem battery lasted 7 years and finally had a dead cell it would not start... waited 5 min and started left car running and figured where to get a battery... I ended up at the dealership the battery was 12 dollars more and had a longer warranty (I think it was 66 months) vs most were 4 or 5 years. well fast forward 11 months after having the dealership battery it had a dead cell. I brought it to the dealership and replaced it but so much for the OEM thoughts. Afterwards I was told not sure if its true that a new car gets a new battery (lead etc) a battery at the dealership can be made up recycled batteries. So looking back I am not sure I would buy or recommend a oem battery again as the warranty is sham especially after 1 year they pro rate the battery (assuming all manufactures are similar)
bought a battery at a parts store for a used car lasted roughly four years on a 5 year warranty I brought it back to the parts store they said with the pro rated amount they would give 22.50 towards a new battery (by the way if I just brought the old junk battery in I would have gotten 20 for a battery core) since I took the trade in warranty as it was slightly higher value I think I only was able to get the remainder of the original warranty applied to the new battery (1 year remaining).
had a super duty pick up with dual batteries that the truck was 7 years old when I sold it and on original motor craft dual batteries still going strong. The truck sat most winters in the cold it was lucky to be started once a month.
bought a duralast gold battery years ago for a tractor and the battery died one month out of the 5 year warranty and I could get nothing for it. so I did trade in the battery got the same battery going on 6 years and still going strong.
so my thoughts are and they are just thoughts... if you battery dies and its convenient to try to order online and do in store pick up with the coupons offered online you might get the better battery (or its just a longer warranty battery not a better battery) then a walmart battery for roughly the same price as the walmart, you might be getting the best value for a battery but not the cheapest battery.
