The friend I have done some military restorations for drove a tank when he was in the service in the mid-50's. He said he will never own a tank. It would be fun to restore one but I don't have big enough facilities or equipment to do it. Last restoration I did was a WW2 M4 high speed tractor that was designed off of the platform of a smaller tank. It has the same tracks as a Sherman but shorter. That thing was at the maximum for my abilities.
I watched a documentary showing a team of guys restoring a tank in Europe somewhere. They took two tanks, cut them in two front and back half and welded the front half of one tank onto the back half of the other tank. They were equipped with big overhead gantry hoists and plenty of room. What a project! Maybe some of you guys saw that show too.
