In modern view there is a yellow marker next to any topics with new posts in them. After I read the topic, the yellow marker disappears, so I know I am up to date on that topic.
In classic view, if a thread has been going on for 2-3 days, like this one surely will for example, it will have recent replies, but be listed on the 3rd or 4th page of topics. To me it is a pain to have to wade through multiple pages of topics to see if a thread that I am interested in has received any replies.
With modern view it is obvious: If the topic is listed with a little yellow marker next to it, it has new replies. There is no "jumping around." The topic with the most recent reply is simply moved to the top of the list.
I don't disparage those who choose classic view, and I would respectfully ask that others don't disparage those of us who choose modern view.
This is truly a unique arrangement on the Internet and IMHO it should stay as it is for that simple reason, as long as the hardware and software continue to support it. Whoever came up with the software that keeps the two forum boards in sync deserves a Nobel prize if you ask me. They're absolutely brilliant.
