Yes, that top feeder house shaft bearing failed on my 7721. I was running it for a while with hardly any bearing left and it ruined the shaft. No fires though.
I did have a hard to find burning smell when combining flax. Turned out to be a straw wrap on the return auger shaft. The one that runs across the front of the cylinder. Up high out of sight unless you get your head way down in there. It wrapped up so tight it rubbed on the combine body and burned the paint off. Just one reason I don't grow flax anymore.
