Well, the mystery gearbox behind the clutch is a mystery no more. It's a Funk reverser gearbox. This would have made sense as this was father-in-laws loader tractor. Sad thing is the lower half, along with the shaft and reverse gear is missing! 16 ton of scrap iron was cleaned up after his passing and I'm sure the lower half was in that mess.
I kept thinking it might have been an overdrive type of setup, but its just a reverser.
