Unfortunately there are thieves everywhere. I have had several things stolen after I bought them. I was just out of luck. What the auction company I work for does is remove anything of value and place it in secure bins. A orange tag is placed on the item stating that there are additional components in the bin. The auction listing tells if the PTO shaft is missing. They have cameras everywhere and can look at the footage to catch anyone who "takes something by mistake".
