Around here you would just be out of luck. I took some stuff to a local consignment auction here several years ago and didn't pick up what didn't sell right after the sale, went to get it the next morning and it was gone. Tough luck, you were supposed to get it after the sale, we don't keep an eye on stuff. I figured the things should have brought about three thousand dollars. Last time I took anything to that auction. Went to another auction and bought a sliding corral panel gate. Auction ended after dark and I figured I would come back in the morning and get my stuff. Somebody stole the gate in the meantime.
