If like lawn mowers, engine mfgrs put connections in the same place. Mounting dimensions are on a pre stamped 10" diameter circle. Only thing you need if you change from a single to a V twin are choke and throttle cables as the length needs to be longer. If a single for a single, I'd think that you would need nothing. ebay has some great deals in new engines at half price. I have 2 BS V twins I bought for my mowers and things went just as I said.
On your splitter, if you replace with like kind/hp, you probably won't have any problems. Sellers on ebay are open to questions, just look around the posting and you can ask them for particulars before you make a purchase. Real good folks on there for buying things.
