Last Saturday I posted about an 06 Ultra Classic that wouldn't idle, appeared to be too lean.
I cobbled together a fuel pressure gauge, sure enough, only about 20 PSI instead of the needed 60 PSI. Also, as soon as the ignition was off, the pressure would fall to zero.
Opened up the tank, pulled the pump up so the pick up was just in the fuel, turned the ignition on. Just as I suspected, spraying gas inside the tank!
Got to looking, the oring on the pressure regulator was blown out. Further investigation revealed the plastic housing the pressure regulator sits in had a broken ear, which allowed the regulator to come out far enough to release the oring.
Must be a common problem, the aftermarket replacement is aluminum instead of plastic.
Replaced the regulator housing, a new filter, a gasket, and some screws, Hundred Dollars (note the initials HD lol) and it's all back together, pressure came up, running good.
Thanks Hobo and others about the cam chain tensioner problem. I told the owner, said we'll go into it this winter and check them out.
