started a simple gasket change on my ford 601 tractor but it turned into a major headache! had a leak in rear end where axle housing bolts to rear end. inner bearing looked good so started to put in new gasket and put back together but noticed a shiney spot on outer end of axle. when i stood axle up to get a better look one of the bearing rollers fell onto floor. book calls for a collar cracking puller that looks like a chinese torture device. what is easiest way to get collar out to acsess bearing housing without damage? book says to drill hole in collar and split with cold chisel. thaught about doing that then standing it up and trying to put in press but didnt know if that would damage housing, that is if it isnt already gone too far. any advise or tips would be greatly appriciated.
