Go ahead and plant some oats with your brome. The will make a nice nurse crop for your seed. They will winter kill so you will not have to worry about the oats come next year. The brome will not go through the grass seed box very well without an agitator.
Another simple way to do it is have your seed blended in with your fertilizer. Set the cart for a half rate and then split your tracks. Meaning if the spreader is set on a forty foot spread go over the field once and then come back driving between the first set of tracks. You will get a good coverage this way. Then just lightly work in the grass seed. A cultimulcher works well with the teeth held up out of the ground. Also a five section drag harrow works fine with the teeth stood just about straight up.
