Could you replace the coil with a Briggs unit with the electronic switch built in ?? I had endless point trouble 30 years ago with Briggs powered pump engines that had to deal with water spray. At that time, Briggs sold an electronic module that replaced the points and was just glued to the coil. I never had a bit of problem with those and still use one of them 30+ years later. Very reliable conversion.
