Hey Neighbor, some old small engines used a battery powered coil points ignition similar to a tractor, others had a coil that was mounted up against the flywheel and Ive had luck fixing some of them simply by cleaning and wire brushing the magnets on the flywheel and adjusting the air gap if needed. Many (not all) small engine coils may have a low voltage primary resistance of less then one up to a few ohms and ohms measurements on a typical volt ohm meter are the horseshoe looking symbol and use the low ohms scale maybe 20 or 200 etc whatever the meter has for the LV primary continuity and resistance check. NOTE often a coil can pass low energy low voltage continuity and resistance checks but still fail at high voltage and once warmed up. A meter can show if its definitely BAD like an open winding but it dont necessarily show you its completely good. Remove the plug wire and let your wife hold it while you give it a spin NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
PS I'm looking into your latest legal project and will call you early next week
