For most people these days I recommend switching to Chromebooks. Big Windows desktop units are way more computer than most people need and require lots of petting, the Chromebook is trimmed down and nearly maintenance-free. Like taking the little car instead of the 1-ton truck to the grocery. But if you don't have good internet, or you object to keeping your data in the "cloud", forget it. Personally, I use Linux for almost everything, or Android. I still need Windows to download Kindle books in a format that I can change to standard e-book type.
