: I have a digital voltmeter and I would like to know how to check the voltage output of my generator and regulator. : I have a Case 300 and I see 2 posts with wires coming off the generator going back to a regulator that is located near the instrument cluster. : The regulator has 3 wires connected to it. The 2 wires from the generator run to 1 side of the regulator and then there is another wire coming out of the regulator going to the key switch I believe. : Does anyone know where I should connect the voltmeter to check for proper voltage of the generator and regulator? What is proper voltage for each? : Any help would be greatly appreciated? : -Karl You check from the large terminal on the generator (labeled GEN or ARM on the regulator) to ground. You don't check the field connection unless nothing at all is happening. Or you check the line from the regulator to the key switch. A 6 volt system should have 7.2 volts at 70° F and a 12 volt system 14.4 volts on the generator terminal for proper battery charging (not too much, not too little). The voltage at the key switch while the battery is charging will be a little lower and until the battery is fully charged (ammeter back to zero), the battery voltage will be lower than either of these. This regulator controls the generator so both have the same voltage. The regulator also disconnects the generator from the battery when the generator would otherwise run as a motor and discharge the battery. Gerald
