I guess my story here needs to be a warning to others.
Yes--I suppose I should have checked better, rather than walking into it eyes wide shut. I'm 62 and been farming all my life. And when I was growing up, people like me had an inherent trust of others in the ag business. You always assumed that your local implement dealer, feed store, etc. would always "do the right thing".
Looks like the ethics I always assumed in farming has slipped away over the horizon. Silently, without me noticing it.
It's now been replaced by a ruthless, bottom-line mentality. Apparently.
Only got myself to blame for this. Yes--I know others will probably say I was naïve. But I can't help the way I was brought up.
