If the gauge reads hot, and the coolant level drops below the radiator core tubes you can see in the fill hole, you have a problem beyond over filling. First issue is circulation. does the coolant circulate when running? Second is there combustion gasses in the coolant (test kits for that are cheap and accurate) If yes, it is repair time for the engine (likely issues are head gasket, or cracked head/block) If not, a leak that lowers coolant level might be to blame. A collapsed hose (inside the hose, not visible) is another possible cause. Failed water pump impeller is possible. Flushing with vinegar till warmed up can remove lime deposits. Good luck. Jim
