What it was like 150 years ago? Sitting here now at 10:30 PM, I just walked back home from the shop. I can hear fireworks from all directions, and some sound like some pretty good booms. In relation to the other post about Gettysburg being 154 years ago, I'll bet the booms I hear are nothing like the ones you would hear living 8 or 10 miles from a Civil War battlefield, or any battlefield for that matter, where you could hear the explosions and not know what was going on or who was gaining the upper hand? It's a nice cool clear night with a bright moon, so on my walk back from the shop, I stopped and just listened to the booms and tried to imagine what it must have been like, and also thought of the post about the original signers of the declaration of independence. Just reminiscing I guess.
