Most folk and a little smoked flavor in their bacon but there's nothing wrong with fresh, fry up a few pieces and try it.
When I was young we worked up our own hogs and just sliced up fresh bacon, most that you find in stores today had smoke flavoring, it's bacon and I like it either way.
You can just sprinkle on a little smoke flavoring when you fry it up if you prefer it that way.
