To answer your opening question bluntly, those add writers are stupid. If they would include a phone number it would help. I have a chart of all the area codes & prefix numbers in Minnesota. However it is a few years old, but I can usually figure out where they are in case I am interested. Prime example of bad add writing- A few years ago there was a flyer in mailbox for pizza delivery, listing an 800 number. I called to get location. This is how it went- Me: where are you located? Voice on phone: a block off highway 61. Me: can you be a bit more specific? Voice: a block west of 61. Me: may I speak with your manager? Voice: one moment please. Me to manager: your flyer says you are a block west of highway 61. That puts you somewhere between New Orleans Louisiana & Thunder Bay Ontario. Could you narrow that down, at least tell me what state you are in, your add doesn't say? Manager: oops, guess we need to reprint that flyer. click.
