Same for signals; they are as for communication that says: "I am here and I plan to do this" - and in EVERY direction, not just behind. Even coming out of a driveway, a signal can tell a lot to traffic. Assuming they pay any attention. I get wary of things like:"if you can change one persons mind or save one life the discussion was worth it." (or "if a law saves one life", etc)because everything has an opposite number. If the same discussion or action COSTS one life, is it still worth it? An awful lot of folk think so. (yes, that happens - even if the news doesn't trumpet the fact).
