I see people post that negative stuff often on 1010 and 2010 diesels. I've asked before and ask again. Why? I worked on many and for their time they were fine. In fact, kind of advanced over some other tractor diesels. Parts availability has always been an issue. As far as reliability - most of the issues we had at the Deere dealerships I worked at were based on owner abuse and/or ignorance. A 1010 or 2010 needed working glow-plugs and a fuel-primer system for good cold starting. Once someone started using ether instead, many problems evolved. Some also had an odd-ball 24 volt system that some people failed to understand (series-parallel).
1010 and 2010 are likely the first Deere diesels with wet sleeves, first with positive valve-stem seals, and first with USA- made rotary-distributor fuel-injection pumps.
I like the 1010 diesels. Wish I had one now. Much bigger then the gas engine; 144 cubic inches instead of 115 cubic inches.
