Start with the serial number. Even that can be subject to debate since the tag is just secured with screws. There are little details that can narrow down the year, original paint colors, hood latch design, a couple that come to mind.
Casting dates don't mean much, the casting could have been in stock for years before it was used, or the part replaced after the tractor left the factory.
Sometimes the true model remains a mystery, a lot can be changed and mix matched over the years.
