The frustrating part of your story is that you have a 40 year old piece of equipment that performs better than the newer one. Chevy tailgates are another example. I have a 2001 that I made my own latch for because the original broke. I also have a 2011 that has the mounting bolts for the latch with 9/16" bolt heads on the inside. When the tailgate is down and you unload sacks of feed or salt you have to avoid the bolt heads. I know it's my own fault I ripped the salt bag last night, but it's a poor design. We had a 2 wheel trailer made out of a 50's truck box and they had it figured out then. Why not now?
