My wife went through the same thing with West Nile. ER Dr's miss diagnosed it, said it was a UT infection. Sent her home...
Next morning she was much worse, went back to the local ER, they wanted another $400 co pay before they would even see her.
I took her to the real hospital in town, they immediately suspected West Nile, started ordering tests.
Come to find out it was West Nile, which had turned to Meningitis!
The reason the West Nile is hard to positively identify is it requires a spinal tap. Not fun, but looking back, with the high fever and other complications, she had a really close call, could have not ended well!
