My son had a 2006 with the 340 hp version of the hemi. He had very few problems with it. He just traded it for a 2017. I just bought a 2009 a couple of months ago with the hemi. (2009 and up are 395 hp) Gets as good or slightly better mileage than the 4.7 in my Dakota. Do not expect to get 20+ mpg, though. The giddy-up-go makes up for that, however, and then some. The power steering is better than the Dakota. The truck is heavier and better riding. This one has 100,000 on it but it is still tight feeling. Definitely a "big truck" feel to it. Nicer truck all around than the Dakota. All I can tell you about the reliability question is that my sons was trouble free. My sister has a Ram of similar vintage and hers gets used a lot and has been a good truck. Yes, changing plugs are a nightmare better left to the dodge dealer's mechanic. I haven't owned this one long enough to judge much yet. Your first impression will be "Holy cow! This thing will get up and go!"
I will advise you, however, to stay away from the Dakotas, especially if they have over 80,000 miles on them. Most people I know who have them tell me theirs were not the most reliable truck they ever owned. My isn't either.
