I also use an 11 dbi gain external antenna with adapter for my Verizon Jetpack AND IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE AND IMPROVEMENT. The Jetpack antenna port is a bit flimsy so I secured the adapter cable firmly to it so as to ease any strain or bending where the cable plugs into the Jetpack. In many locations I don't need the external antenna but its sure handy to have in low signal areas.
I'm sure you will like it, I do mine. I may purchase an AT & T Mobley mobile hotspot HOWEVER I have concerns since it DOES NOT have an external antenna port PLUS I don't find as much coverage with ATT.
On the road the combination of my fake Wilson Cell booster amplifier for the wifes phone and my Verizon Jetpack I'm pretty well connected EXCEPT some of the remote Utah and Colorado and Nevada mountain areas grrrrrrrrrrrr
