I only worked on my bush hog a couple of times, but both times I had the cutter mounted to the tractor, raised, tractor shut off, then safety-chained so it could not fall. Last time I did anything with underside, the leading edge never left the ground, Was a tight fit for sure, but the cutter was "grounded" into the soft soil and couldn't slide. LOTS of grasses with horrible root systems made certain the soft soil couldn't move.
That said, I too have done my fair share of stupid things in my life. ...Probably still got one or two stupid things left in me as well. :?
