Dick, I'm a believer using jack stands on concrete and not on dirt. If the floor jack isn't in the way, I'll leave it there with most of the weight on the jack stands.
The other day, jack stands weren't ideal to use on my backhoe. So I used stabilizers to lift the rear tires off the ground. Used two thick blocks of oak wood and put under the tires before I crawled under the tractor checked the oil in the rear end.
Many years ago, I heard of a man working on his car, used concrete blocks, blocks failed, crushed the man.
