First thing; figure out what you have control over and what you don't have any control over spending wise.
Taxes, medical, really basic living expenses no control; you gotta eat, have a roof over your head, etc. Where you do have control is how nice of a roof, how high off the hog, etc.
What killed me was medical; 2000 I was paying $500 a year. 2015 it was $9000! Same basic coverage, with same company, just that I was older and I'm not sure what else.
Taxes kept going up; property taxes. They kept finding new ways to add assessments to my property, those added another $1000 a year on top of the yearly 2% additional.
Sales, gas, use, utility, and whatever other taxes all increased.
Of course all the businesses were hit with all the same taxes and fees and just passed them on to me with increased prices....
