Floor jacks do not move straight up either. Was planning on using the trailer jack tip I read about on the back end and moving it back rather than trying to move the front. Do know about blocking the front just thinking something supporting both sides of the engine would be better than a floor jack.
My shop only has an 8 foot celling which eliminates any kind of crane. Maybe because I've only been exposed to cheap or worn engine hoists but never seen one that would hold without leaking down and was a bear to move with any kind of load on it.
My floor jack will take care of the front end work and have plenty of time to figure out what to use for the split.
