David, That could have cost you an engine. Sounds like you got lucky.
The other day I had to buy a mower part. I noticed the new mowers came with either a Kohler or a Kawasaki. Kawasaki added about $300 to the price.
I have two Kaw and two Kohler engines. Both have been good engines, but I think I would pay the additional $300 as long as the kaw had a carb. Buying parts for Kaw EFI is pricey. I like Keeping It Simple enough for me to repair, KISS.
The other day I noticed the pump on my old pressure dripping oil. I thought I was going to need a new pump. Turns out the sight glass on side of pump vibrated loose. Decided it was time to change oil before filling the pump. Good thing, oil had a lot of particles in it. geo
