I purchases a welder "industrial model" for home use it was a few years old. I am a hone owner and purchased to tinker and build a trailer. Fast forward another 5 years, it was stolen. The time I had trying to get a fair settlement from insurance. The insurance company depreciates everything. They first off wanted to find out why I had an industrial machine (was I operating a business out of my home without telling them). Then what was the machine worth, I had serial # on record with a bill of sale. After insurance company depreciated the machine 7 years, they were saying it was almost worthless. Then I mentioned it was an industrial machine for personal use and showed them the 4x 8 trailer I had built, you know the 3 hors use it had in five years. We then moved onto the inert gas tank that I purchased new 5 years prior that they told me had fully depreciated. My response was how about this other oxygen cylinder I bought 5 years Ago used at the gas supplier for 10% discount because it was usesd and still in service from 1942. I am did not get even close to used replacement cost, and house insurance seems to increase $ 200 every year, even when house value was going down. It might of leveles off now, but they won.
