Funny how one's buying habits develop as they grow into adults and beyond. I'll admit that when I was a kid I was drawn to IH equipment substantially over other makes. What I never saw as a kid was while the "in county" local IH dealer was pretty decent most other dealers wanted dad's business a lot more and that was a big factor in how dad went about things. I also liked Deere equipment and that was a result of dad buying a new 4010 when I was a pre-schooler. Circumstances could have well changed that. At the time the local Deere dealer was the closest dealer to us regardless of brand and that the 4020's were ready to hit the dealer yards so the 4010's were discounted heavily. If the buying decision had been put off for several months the 4010's would have been gone and now the local dealer was talking retirement. At that point there would have been 2 IH dealers within 15 minutes and dad may have gone with an 806 and that may have been the tractor I would have grown up admiring. In the end it takes nothing away from our 4010 as it has been a great tractor and am glad we have it.
