Growing up in a non-drinking home, I've been opposed to drunkenness all my life. However, it's legal, so not a whole lot I can do about it. But it's always gotten under my skin when folks say "Oh, they didn't know what they were doing - it was the alcohol (or drugs) doing it". The ONLY time that should be relevant is if it was forced into their system without their consent!
Everyone who drinks and drives should be held accountable for their actions. Yet amazingly, take two identical crimes, add drunkenness to one, and suddenly the penalty is less. It don't add up.
