I made one or two. I had the hardware from the old board, otherwise making the hardware is the somewhat difficult. Best to find an existing one on a mower and copy the parts. My experience was with IH mowers, JD may be different. Basic metal parts: a square piece of flat steel which needs to have hole drilled in the approximate center for the attaching bolt, probably 1/2 inch. A hole probably 1/4 or 5/16 in each corner to reinforce the wooden swath board and suitable bolts, nuts and washers. The 1/2 bolt with large flat washers and a nut, or nuts along with a coil spring because the swath board needs to have flexibility. A flat piece of steel to be a runner to go on the bottom of the swath board so the wood wont wear out so soon.

The wood part need to be a piece of oak or some hardwood measuring about 3/4 by 6 inches by about 2 feet long. A round stick about 3 feet long is attached to the board at an angle to throw the hay away from end of the cutterbar so that the mower slides will not hang up on the hay for the next swath. An old piece of broken shovel handle works fine. Its best if an original is examined before building this. Some disc mowers have steel swathboards which might give some ideas.
