Most parts guys have been worthless throughout history. When you went up to the parts counter you always hoped you got the one good guy at the place because none of the other guys could find their way out of a wet paper bag.
These days you can't afford to pay for a good parts guy if you can even find one. It's a minimum wage job because the computer does the work 95% of the time, so you mostly get minimum wage people that are just drifting from job to job until their unemployment benefits reset. Occasionally you get a good kid that's smart and has lots of promise, but he's usually on his way to becoming a rocket surgeon, so he's gone in a few months too.
