You are NOT an incompetent customer. Simple fact is that it is the counterman's responsibility to look up parts, get parts from stock, and insure that you have the correct parts. If all of the work was on the customer, then we would only need trained monkeys behind the counters instead of countermen.
Note that I told one poster that he was out of line for his comments about who should look up the parts.
I will also add that when you are getting parts for an older and more obscure piece of equipment, it is helpful to get numbers from old filters if available.
