I don't think the problem is in the spool valve, that has to be in position to send pressure to the loader.
And reversing the lines is not good, that could damage the valve. If it is marked P (pressure) and T (return), keep it that way.
Sounds like something is switched between the joystick valve and the cylinders. You could disconnect everything, get an air gun and start blowing through the P port, see where the flow goes. Most valves ports are marked. P and T are the pressure and return, A and B are the cylinder connections. Each cylinder will connect to an A and B port.
Something else to check, being the spool valve needs to be tied back to get pressure to the loader, sounds like your tractor uses an "open center" valve system. That means the hydraulic oil freeflows through the valve, back to the tank when the valve is in the neutral position. Check the joystick valve to be sure it is an open center. If it is closed center (the P port is blocked in neutral) it will have to be changed, otherwise the system will be deadheaded against the relief valve and will overheat the oil, drag down the power.
I'm offering a lot of guess work here, so don't take this as the truth, do your own homework before making any expensive decisions!
