I have been in business for a lot of years.Some of my customers have been with me for all of those 40 years. Some of them are my close friends and neighbors, some are not.Most of those friends knows that I have always tried to do them a good job and charge them a price we could both live with.That's the reason they have continued to patronize my business for so many years. A while back, I lost a good customer and a friend. He quit coming to my shop because he felt I had over charged him for a job. I have no control over the price of parts and lot of times I let my good customers have them for exactly what they cost me. As I did in this case. He's getting up in years and a little on the stubborn side and I could tell he wasn't happy with the bill, and he hasn't come back. Now I have lost a customer and I thought, a friend. I have found over the years it is much easier to do business with a total stranger than it is a friend. You give a stranger a price and he takes it or leaves it. If he leaves,you haven't lost something you never had. When you loose a customer and a friend in the same deal, it's bad.
