You got that right. I went through it 30 years ago when I had a body shop. Some joker filed a complaint with the EPA 'cause I just had an exhaust fan blowing into the open air outside the shop.
Of course, once the guy filed the complaint the EPA had to check it out. The inspector that came out could find no evidence of paint residue on the outside of the shop, nor was there anything close enough to be harmed. He couldn't say it, but I got the feeling he thought the complaint was as ridiculous as I did. He did say, though, that when I was painting I might want to let the airflow hold a furnace filter against the screen on the exhaust fan.
Remember, though, this was 30 years ago. I'm sure the EPA is not as sympathetic now.
