Have you ever tried to put a nail in a poplar board that was cured really well. Nigh impossible without splitting the board or bending the nail. We take beaver trimmed and cured trees sometimes and use for baseball bats as kids. Never broke one, we did leave the handle thicker than a normal Bat just for safety sake
